Cupcakes are all about toppings -- toppings that catch your eye, entice you to throw your diet plans to the wind, and simply indulge yourself, sinking into that Never Never Land of Gastronomic Happiness.  However, to successfully create wonderful toppings takes many steps and loads of ingredients to hand: nuts, candies, cookies, fruits, etc. etc.  It is not easy and calls for good planning and dedication.  But the results can be more than pleasing and to see the faces of your friends light up at your finished masterpieces, that is enough to make all the hard work worthwhile!

As I have said many, many times, it is important to know the basic techniques.  And for Asian cooking, steamed rice is about as basic as it gets.

Steamed rice comes in handy for a wide variety of recipes.  It is particularly important when you want to create a perfect dish of fried rice.  The rice should not form lumps but each grain should dance on its own in the hot wok.

Once you have mastered the technique of steaming rice, the sky is your limit in creating all sorts of fried rice.  Fried rice makes wonderful one-dish meals, is quick and easy to cook and is a great way to use up left-over rice.
